Friends' Managing Director, Ryan Hohman, Named Organization's First Vice President

Washington, DC – October 4, 2016 –  Friends of Cancer Research (Friends) announced today that Ryan Hohman, JD, who previously served as Managing Director, has been named Vice President – Public Affairs. This promotion is part of a larger organizational growth strategy that was initiated with the August announcement of Jeff Allen, PhD, becoming President & CEO.

As the first Vice President of Friends, Hohman will take the lead of all public affairs strategies and direct the organization’s significant new policy, advocacy, and education divisions.

“Throughout his tenure here at Friends, Ryan has consistently shown a passion for our work and found innovative ways to develop critical policies benefiting patients in need,” said Friends’ Founder & Chair Ellen Sigal, PhD. “Due to his unique skill set and deep compassion, Ryan will no doubt continue to drive our collaborative efforts in order to do what’s best for patients.”

“As we look toward Friends’ next twenty years and the challenges facing cancer research, we will continue to innovate and rise to the great opportunities that science holds,” Allen said. “Ryan is an incredible advocate with a deep understanding of the public affairs, legislative, and policy landscape. His new role will be instrumental to help lead the growth and impact of our important work.”

Hohman has had a diverse career, working with physicians, researchers, and scientists around sustaining federal funding for biomedical research. He specializes in helping these communities collaborate, engage, and navigate the regulatory process to maximize their impact for patients. Throughout his career, Hohman has worked with political leaders at the highest level and developed communications and governmental strategies for a wide range of organizations.

“I have been honored to be a part of Friends’ groundbreaking work during my tenure, working with leaders across sectors, to reshape regulatory policy to positively impact cancer outcomes for the lives of millions,” Hohman said. “It is only through collaboration and pushing partisan politics aside that we will accelerate the pace of science and innovation and win this fight for patients.”
