Position Overview:
Friends of Cancer Research (Friends) is seeking a Science Policy Fellow for a six-month term, with the potential for extension to one-year, to be a part of our fast-paced science policy team.
Friends powers advances in science and policy that speed life-saving treatments to patients. Friends aims to accelerate cutting edge cancer care that both extends and improves quality of life for patients. To accomplish this, we leverage groundbreaking collaborations, generate scientific evidence, and integrate patient input to shape public policy.
The Science Policy Fellow works with all members of the Science Policy Team to: Develop project material and meeting summary documents; Write and analyze scientific and policy documents; and Contribute to other activities and projects as needed.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual and self-starter who can collaborate effectively within a small but nimble organization. Candidates should be a current graduate, postdoctoral, or professional school student pursuing a terminal degree (e.g., M.D., Pharm.D., Ph.D.,) or have obtained a terminal degree within the last five years and have interest in cancer research and regulatory policy. Candidates should be based in the United States and not require visa sponsorship from Friends of Cancer Research in order to remain in the U.S. during the fellowship dates. Although not required, the ideal candidate will benefit from the following knowledge and skills:
- Show initiative.
- Be highly organized, including being able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and being attentive to detail.
- Have strong written and oral scientific communications skills.
- Have experience with the Microsoft suite (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Over the course of the fellowship, you will learn about the functions of a non-profit organization and gain valuable experience in aspects of health and science policy research, cancer advocacy, and federal government relations.
