The target population of a study is the broad group of people that researchers are examining. In clinical trials, this means the group of people researchers think might benefit from a particular experimental drug. The specific condition a drug is intended to treat is referred to as that drug’s indication. Drug developers sometimes conduct clinical trials for drugs that have already been approved by the FDA in order to determine whether or not they can be used for additional indications or populations.
