Patient Focused Drug Development (PFDD) is a systematic approach to capturing patients’ experiences, perspectives, and needs throughout the development of a new product. One example of a patient-focused approach to drug development is the use of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical trials. These assessments can be used to collect information to understand how patients tolerate new medicines capture and inform a more patient-focused assessment of the optimal dose. Another is to have patient advocacy groups involved in clinical trial design and drug development to ensure research is patient centric.
