Friends of Cancer Research Statement on President Obama’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress

Thursday September 10, 2009

Arlington, VA- Thousands of people are diagnosed with cancer everyday. And the reality is that far too many of those diagnosed will not receive the treatment that they need, or will be diagnosed too late due to lack of proper health coverage.

President Obama, in his address to Congress, refocused the debate on who health reform impacts: patients.

Friends of Cancer Research commends President Obama for a thoughtful and honest assessment of the state of the debate. We believe that reform to our healthcare system cannot wait. The longer we wait, even just one day, could mean one more person losing the battle with cancer that given the opportunity to fight, could have won.
