Arlington, VA (PRWEB) January 11, 2009 — Friends of Cancer Research brought in the New Year with a newly designed website, http://www.focr.org. The new site, launched at the end of December, was designed and developed by Blue Water Media.

For over ten years, Friends of Cancer Research (FOCR) has created effective partnerships between doctors, scientists, public officials, patients and other advocates of cancer research for the purpose of inspiring and accelerating advancement in cancer detection, prevention and treatment. The non-profit organization achieves the partnerships by engaging these advocates through scientific outreach, public outreach, policy and media outreach efforts. FOCR’s executive committee and board of directors are made up of individuals from various walks of life, including medical professionals, media & public relations professionals and non-profit professionals. They come together, bringing their wide range of expertise to the table, in order to forge key partnerships between the medical profession, law makers, media outlets and the general public to advocate further innovations in cancer research.

The new website was designed and developed with the objective of disseminating important information regarding cancer research to its core audience. FOCR intends to target public officials, including Senate and House staff, other government officials, cancer researchers, doctors and advocates, providing current information on FOCR’s efforts in cancer research, its funding and policy. In order to allow FOCR to maintain fresh information on the site, Blue Water Media implemented Joomla!, an open source content management system, designed for those who have limited HTML or web design experience to easily add and/or update content on a website. As a result, visitors of http://www.focr.org will be kept up to date with recent developments involving cancer research.
